VPFA Update

Dear Families of the Valhalla community,

I am so honored to be the new principal of Valhalla Elementary. I have felt so welcomed with open arms by you, the staff and our amazing students. It is very important that we all stay connected and reflect on our love for students and learning to guide every decision that we take as a community. Our school is a hidden gem. While it may seem tucked away in Pleasant Hill, it is no secret that Valhalla is a beloved school by anyone who has had the privilege to have benefitted from the hard work and dedication of the staff and families here. I myself am a Pleasant Hill resident of 15 years. I understand and value the importance of being connected to the community.

My primary goal is to carry on the strong traditions and to support the rigorous learning environment that has been provided here as well as create some new traditions together as a new team. Please don’t hesitate to come by and say hello. I hope to have the opportunity to meet every single one of you either on campus, as a volunteer, or at a school event.

Thank you so much for all you do for your child and for the school. I’m so proud to be a Valhalla Viking.

Square 1 Art

Your children have been hard at work creating art for our Square 1 fundraiser.

Soon a custom catalog featuring their artwork will be coming home. Please consider purchasing keepsakes of their masterpieces from either the online site which is printed on your catalog or paper order forms.

You have until Monday November 26th to get your orders in. Products will arrive at school December 19th and will go home with your child.

If you have purchased products as gifts for your children, please email Aubrey Bitter at with the name of your child and their teacher's name so she/he can make sure to conceal the products.

The higher our participation in purchasing items, the higher our percentage of profit.

So, even a small purchase helps the school reach its goals!

Lost and Found!

Lost n Found

Please look and see if your child has left anything behind. We will be donating all unclaimed items starting November 1st.

Coffee and a Good Book!

Stack of BooksAfter you drop off your student at Valhalla, what do you do?Stack of Books

Go home, have a cup of coffee?

Wouldn’t you rather spend 25 minutes helping a student AND having a cup of coffee?

The Reading Lab would love for you to come by and read with a student or two. It only takes 25 minutes!

The Reading Lab is in need of volunteers on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 8:15, 8:45, 9:15 and 9:45AM.

If you can spare the time, our students will be very appreciative.

Any adult over 18 years old with some free time can help.  This includes parents, grandparents, friends and neighbors. The gift of 25 minutes a week will last a lifetime for these students.

A little less conversation, a little more auction!

It's the season for giving!

MonumentCrisisCenter Holiday Toiletry Drive 2018

The VPFA is running a toiletry drive for Monument Crisis Center.

We will be assembling toiletry kits for needy individuals of all ages.

We are asking for donations of an assortment of items that many of us take for granted.

We have already coordinated hundreds of donations of toothbrushes and toothpaste from some of our wonderful local dentists.

Won't you help us fill those bags with other necessities?

One or more items have been assigned to each grade, which can all be collected in each teacher's classroom.

If it is easier for you to provide items other than what has been requested for your grade, that's fine.

Just drop it in your teacher's box and we will sort it later.

Here is what we are asking for:

TK-K  Kids’ socks

1st     Adult socks

2nd    Shampoo & conditioner

          (TRAVEL SIZE)

3rd    Soap & body wash

          (TRAVEL SIZE)

4th     Deodorant

5th     1 gallon ziplock bags

          and children's washcloths

Assembling the bags will take place in the library annex at 5:30PM on the evening of November 14th, right before the VPFA meeting.

It shouldn't take more than an hour, but we need lots of helping hands. Please mark your calendars and plan to join us. Let's show our community how much Valhalla cares!

We would like to give a special shout-out to the following local dentists for their generous donation of toothbrushes and toothpaste: Dr. Darryl Burke, Dr. Steven Greer, Dr. Amybeth Harmon, Drs. May and Bessma Hayder, Dr. Daniel Leung, and Dr. Yen Vu.

The school with the highest participation will receive 20% of purchases back.

Just mention Valhalla to the cashier when checking out!

Sponsor a Sign-Up Party!

Now is the perfect time to start planning a sign-up party for our spring auction! Sign-up parties are among the most lucrative fundraisers on our list of biddable auction items every year, but they are also one of the most under-utilized. We need more people to host! What is a sign-up party? It's where you, or you and one or more friends agree to host an event for anyone to buy tickets and attend. You decide what kind of party, how many people, if it's a kids' party, an adults-only party, or a family event, and you set the price.

Successful recent events have included progressive dinner parties, a hike followed by a champagne brunch, and a favorite things parties for ladies only. But you can do whatever you want!

~ Dad and kid day at the driving range, with lunch at the clubhouse

~ Scotch, whiskey or wine tasting party

~ Kids' Lego or princess party, Nerf war, amazing race or minute-to-win-it challenge

~ Mom's night out

~ Pub crawl

~ Family campout with guided nature walk and hosted s'mores bonanza

~ Cinco de Mayo fiesta with tacos and margaritas

~ Cooking class with dinner party

~ Biking challenge with afterparty and family-friendly activities

~ Bocce, croquet, cornhole, and/or badminton family tournament and BBQ at a park

Whatever you want, guys. Whatever. You. Want.

These really are incredible fundraisers for the school, and you will make amazing new friends. Our community is seriously awesome! Don't be shy--you have an opportunity to make a huge impact on the success of our fundraising efforts, while bringing people together and having a blast!

Library Tip

Stack of Books

Did you know you can look up books in our library from the comfort of your home

Simply go to, click on "Valhalla Elementary" then click on "Catalog" and you're in!

This is an easy, hassle free way to help your K-2 child look up books ahead of their library day, and older students can do this on their own. They can write a few choices on a slip of paper and on library day, book check-out is a breeze!

Happy reading!
